Calhoun, Ga., soldier killed in Afghanistan

A 38-year-old Calhoun, Ga., resident was killed in Afghanistan over the weekend when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle, according to Georgia National Guard reports.

First Sgt. John D. Blair of the 1/121st Infantry of the Georgia National Guard died June 20 in Mado Zayi, Afghanistan, a news release from the National Guard stated.

The first sergeant had been a member of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department, according to National Guard spokesman Sgt. 1st Class Roy Henry.
