Hall has another pro shot

Ex-Lady Moc awaits European possibility

After a year on the bench as an assistant coach at Maryville College, Laura Hall is trying to resume her basketball career.

The former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga point guard, who graduated in 2008 and had a tryout with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun following her senior season, participated in a prospects camp in Bonn, Germany, earlier this month.

Hall said representatives from teams throughout Europe were at the camp and she received positive feedback from several of them. Despite feeling a little unsure of herself traveling abroad alone, Hall said she enjoyed the overall experience and felt good about her performance.

"I don't think I'm as fast as I was in college, but as far as playing and being in decent shape and my shooting, everything was fine," Hall said. "Actually, I was pretty surprised by how well I did."

Last season at Maryville, Hall said she spent plenty of time on the court, which made her realize she wasn't ready to close the door for good on her basketball career.

"At the end of the season, I thought about it and told myself that if I get the opportunity I'm going to give it a shot," she said.

Even if nothing comes of the tryout, Hall said she won't be returning to Maryville because budget cuts eliminated her staff position.

"I'm really not sure what I'm going to do," she said. "It's hard not knowing, but I enjoyed coaching and that's definitely what I want to do in the future."

Hall was a four-year starter for the Lady Mocs and is in their top eight all-time in assists, 3-pointers, free-throw percentage and games played.

* Lady Mocs sophomore Capriee Tucker, who missed most of last season with a torn ACL in her right knee, had surgery on her left knee Tuesday, the Fort Payne (Ala.) Times-Journal reported Friday.

Tuesday's surgery was to correct a torn meniscus, and during the surgery it was discovered that the former Fort Payne High School star also had a torn ACL and MCL. Tucker's mother, Sandi, told the Times-Journal that the 6-foot forward likely will redshirt next season.

Tucker played in just seven games last season, averaging 2.7 points. Lady Mocs coach Wes Moore is on vacation in Europe and could not be reached for comment.
