Chattanooga is only a 21/2 hour drive away -- or less -- for more than 9 million people.

If you're looking for a staycation but you still want to pamper yourself some, the Chattanooga region offers some interesting bed-and-breakfast choices.

From Chattanooga's riverside Bluff View Inn and the Chattanooga Choo-Choo train cars to Hale's Bar Marina and Resort's floating cabins and Fort Oglethorpe's Officers' Quarters, you'd think the area already has everything. But now there's one more: an old riverboat turned into guest rooms.

The 87-stateroom Delta Queen is itself a National Historic Landmark with Victorian-era heritage and "a history waiting for your discovery," says owner Harry Phillips.

Couple these getaways with the Tennessee Aquarium, the Chattanooga and Chickamauga National Military Park and the nation's fifth largest river -- the Tennessee -- who needs Disney?

"Chattanooga is a destination where you can come to get away," said Bob Doak, president and CEO of the Chattanooga Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It has big-city amenities in a small community."

Here's a quick rundown on some of the region's other getaways:

* Bluff View Inn, at the center of Chattanooga's Bluff View Art District, offers a haven of restaurants, gardens, galleries, terrace cafes, working artists and 16 rooms in three historic homes overlooking the Tennessee River just a few steps away from the Tennessee Aquarium.

* StoneFort Inn, a sister property of the Delta Queen, is another Chattanooga historic register landmark. It offers 20 rooms within walking distance of the Tennessee Aquarium, Imax Theatre and Southside district.

* Chattanooga Choo-Choo is a 24-acre vacation and convention complex in downtown Chattanooga best known for its 100-year-old domed centerpiece, the former Southern Railway depot-turned-restaurant and 48 restored Victorian train-car rooms. The Choo-Choo also includes a Holiday Inn hotel, four other restaurants, gardens, exhibit halls and eight retail shops.

* Captain's Quarters in Fort Oglethorpe is a 1902, Renaissance Revival home that backs up to the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Originally a duplex, it once housed two captains and their families stationed in Fort Oglethorpe with the 6th Cavalry.

* Hale's Bar Marina Floating Cabins on the Tennessee River at Guild, Tenn., is a 45-minute drive from Chattanooga, or you can cruise down by boat and spend the night.
