LaFAYETTE, Ga. -- Dimitri Miles likely will join a growing list of northwest Georgia high school football players committing to major colleges. The LaFayette receiver is in no hurry, however, and his coach says he has time on his side going into his senior season.

Miles, at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, doesn't appear on many big-time college recruiting lists despite a junior season in which the Alabama native caught 31 passes for 791 yards and 15 touchdowns while also rushing for 390 yards and four scores. The reason, according to Ramblers coach Perry Swindall, comes down to two-tenths of a second.

"He runs in the 4.5 range, and the scouts say if you're going to be 6-2, you need to be in the 4.3 range," Swindall said. "Either that or be 6-3 or taller. If he were either, he'd be a top-10 receiver. All I know is he can play and he's going to get better."

Miles is not being ignored. He has solid offers from Louisville, Memphis and Central Florida as well as several top Football Championship Series schools. Miles recently attended Georgia's camp and will visit several schools in the coming weeks, including Ole Miss.

What also will help Miles, Swindall said, is a LaFayette offense that should put up big passing numbers this year.

"We've got a great quarterback back in Josh Morgan and two other receivers, Bowe Coffman and Tyler Burse, who are also getting looks from colleges," Swindall said. "We only passed for 2,000 yards last year, and I would be surprised if we don't exceed 3,000 this year. Dimitri will put up big numbers and he'll get more attention."
