MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — A McMinn County man has been charged with first-degree murder in the Wednesday shooting of Monroe County resident Renee Roissier Miller.
Monroe County Detective Jennifer Bledsoe said late Thursday that Kenneth Erick Waldrop is being held without bond in the case.
According to a news release, Detective Jeff Vittatoe of the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office asked Monroe County authorities to check on Ms. Miller after her husband couldn’t contact her.
Monroe County detectives determined she last was seen with Mr. Waldrop. They spoke with him late Wednesday, and he led them to McMinn County, the release stated.
McMinn County Sheriff Steve Frisbie said his deputies helped search the woods off Mecca Pike east of Etowah, where they found a red convertible with a white top. Ms. Miller’s body was inside, he said.
The weapon was found in Monroe County, officers said.
Detective Bledsoe said Mr. Waldrop has taken responsibility for the death and for his actions after the shooting. She said information on the circumstances of the shooting and the type of weapon used will not be released until an autopsy is completed.
Mr. Waldrop is being held in the McMinn County Jail.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the TBI is assisting in the case.
