I Love My Job: at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee

At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST), I work in BlueCard Host Service and absolutely love my job. Blue Card Host works with Tennessee providers on claims they submit for patients with out-of-state Blue Cross Blue Shield policies. We serve as the providers’ voice to ensure claims are processed correctly and in a timely manner. This position was a major career change for me and I really didn’t know what to expect. But, from day one I could tell my job would be both challenging and rewarding.

In my role as a Customer Service Representative, I work with our network providers everyday. These doctors look to us to solve problems and depend on us to help them take care of their patients. We do that by answering providers’ questions, correcting problems or helping them to understand why a patient’s claim processed a certain way. There are many patients that do not understand how their insurance benefits work, and knowing that I have helped the provider be more effective on the front end to save the patient time and money is a great feeling. Though I don’t directly deal with the patients, I enjoy working to help others, even in a roundabout way. It’s a gratifying experience to be a part of something larger than myself.

I also appreciate how BCBST is very concerned about their employees’ growth and development. No matter were you start in this company there is always room for growth. They offer mentoring programs and online courses you can take to benefit your career. I work with a fabulous group of people—other customer service representatives, supervisors, and team leaders—that are willing to help with any questions or concerns, whether work related or personal. BCBST takes care of its employees and always tries to make the company a more enjoyable place to work. In my opinion, you won’t find another company out there better to work for than BCBST. I plan on being here for a very long time and can’t wait for our department to move to its new building on Cameron Hill, which will help us enjoy and perform our jobs even better.
