Shane Roberson has resigned as baseball coach at Sequatchie County after just one season.

A former Baylor player, Roberson guided Sequatchie to a 17-17 record, a 10-win improvement over the previous season against a formidable schedule.

“We had a successful year,” he said. “We played seven teams that made it to the sectionals. It was a tough schedule for us.”

Roberson was teaching in the elementary school while coaching the Indians. He said he is pursuing other opportunities that he hopes will include coaching.

“He did a good job while he was here and I wish him luck,” Sequatchie principal Tommy Layne said.

Sequatchie lost twice to District 6-AA winner Marion County but both were one-run losses. They counted wins over 6-AAA members Red Bank and Ooltewah among their 17 wins.

“We actually lost seven games by one run,” Roberson said.

The Indians advanced from the district to the region semifinals, something that a Sequatchie team had not done in nine years before being eliminated from postseason play by McMinn Central.

“We were overmatched, although I think we did outhit them,” he said. “Four of their hits were home runs and one of those was a grand-slam and another was a three-run homer.”
