Ooltewah: Woman, 58, killed in car wreck

A 58-year-old woman was killed today in a car wreck on Hunter road in Ooltewah, authorities said.

Lynda Petty of Ooltewah was pronounced dead at the scene, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said in a release.

About noon today, sheriff’s deputies were called to the 5600 block of Hunter Road on reports of a crash, Ms Atkinson said. When deputies arrived, they found a wrecked 1999 Toyota 4 Runner, she said.

The vehicle apparently lost control trying to negotiate a curve and left the roadway on the righthand side, Ms. Atkinson said. The Toyota went off an embankment, through a yard then back up the embankment, where it went airborne before slamming into a tree, she said.

The investigation is continuing through the sheriff’s office traffic division, she said.
