Ask a doctor

Q. What advice do you have for people as they age?

A. I tell all my patients on the other side of 40 that they need to focus on three things to maximize their chances of remaining healthy. They need to 1) watch their weight; 2) exercise 30 minutes most (not every) days; and 3) don't smoke. If they're doing all three, great. If not, fix it now. Living longer is much more satisfying if your engine and chassis are in good repair.

-- Dr. Wayne T. Scott,

internal medicine physician

board member of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society and of Memorial Hospital
