Most people feel that sexual matters should be “private.” Most people believe that marriage is a voluntary legalized union between “one man and one woman.”
Homosexual situations do occur, but most people prefer for them not to be a matter of political or legal debates.
But in Maine this week, there was a ballot referendum on legal approval of “same-sex marriage” in that state.
Maine’s governor favored approval. Maine’s legislative leaders favored it. Maine’s major newspapers favored it. The same-sex-marriage advocates raised $4 million to promote their view, compared with only $2.5 million raised by opponents.
But with most of the votes counted, proponents of legally supporting only one-man-one-woman marriage fortunately maintained a slim margin.
That made the 31st state which has supported the conventional view of marriage in citizen voting.
Just wait. The politically rabid extremists with their agenda to rip the last family institution that has existed for thousands of years as between one man and one woman, away from hetereosexuals will probably get their way next time.
Ho hum. Civil marriage and all the rights of humans under the Constitution aren't enough though for some. They aren't happy until their beliefs, their way of life and their perversions are thrust upon all of us. Just ask hetereos in San Fransicko how nicely they are treated on the streets, esp. when there is a nude gay parade going on. Ask the Prop 8 supporters who were issued death threats and the employers who were harassed out of business because they supported the Prop.
Ho hum, life goes on in some places, where some people insist on living in a 'Bubble'. We'll wait and see.
