App State leads UTC 21-7

BOONE, N.C. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team couldn't get out of its own way in the first quarter Saturday at Kidd Brew Stadium. And No. 8 Appalachian State was more than happy to take advantage of all the Mocs' miscues.

The Mountaineers moved the ball at will on offense and led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Running backs Devon Moore and Devin Radford and quarterback Armanti Edwards all scored on short runs.

The Mocs made some things happen early in the second quarter and actually outperformed the Mountaineers.

Doug Faatiliga forced a fumble and fellow linebacker Joseph Thornton recovered the loose ball at the Appalachian State 39. The offense then put its first drive together and scored a 1-yard run by quarterback B.J. Coleman.

Interceptions by Jordan Tippit and Joel Bradford gave the Mocs more opportunities to cut into the lead, but UTC couldn't capitalize on either drive.

The Mocs, who held Appalachian State scoreless in the second quarter, got the ball back at their 23 with 1:43 left in the half and drove to the ASU 36. But Coleman's Hail Mary heave at the end of the half came up empty.

Halftime: Appalachian State 21, UTC 7
