Holiday Cooking: Cocktails

The holidays are a time for toasting. Bubbly and spirits are all part of the season from champagne to a number of mixers.

It all starts with the mix and finishes with garnishes. Forget about little umbrellas or a speared slice of orange. Festive is the word. Cinnamon sticks, peppermint sticks, skewers of cranberries. Or add more splash with fresh berries or sugared cinnamon sticks.

“During the holidays people want something more creative than usual. A step above regular martinis. They get excited about drinks we feature, holiday and seasonally inspired cocktails,” said Michael Hennen, bar manager at Hennen’s. “And if we suggest they try a specialty drink, a little light goes off and they think, ‘Why not?’”

But, head bartender Sanders Parker said most holiday cocktails are served in homes. So this holiday season, consider adding a splash to your parties, or ask your favorite bartender to shake up something festive.
