Chattanooga Times Free Press Publisher and Executive Editor Tom Griscom is one of several elected to new posts with the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association.
The organization announced at its annual convention at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Naples, Fla., that Mr. Griscom will serve a one-year term as treasurer.
Steve Brandt, president and publisher of the Greenville (S.C.) News, will replace Donna Barrett, president and chief executive of Community newspaper Holdings in Birmingham, Ala., as president of the SNPA. Ms. Barrett will chair the association’s board.
Reid Ashe, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Media General in Richmond, Va., was elected SNPA president-elect.
Members also elected six new directors to serve on the board for a three-year term. New board members are Art Powers, publisher and vice president of the Johnson City (Tenn.) Press; Lee Simpson, publisher of the Amarillo (Texas) Globe-News; Frank Nixon, president of Fackelman Newspapers, Louisiana; Todd Carpenter, president and chief operating officer of Boone Newspapers, Mississippi; Hal Tanner III, general manager of The Goldsboro (N.C.) News-Argus; and Trip Shumate, vice president and chief financial officer of the Daily Gazette Co. in Charleston, W.V.
At a meeting Sunday, David Paxton, president and CEO of Paxton Media Group, Paducah, Ky., was among those elected to a seat on the SNPA Foundation board. He succeeds Walter E. Hussman Jr., who serves as chairman of the Times Free Press and also is publisher of th e Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock. Mr. Hussman had served a maximum two terms on the board.
The SNPA is an organization of Southern newspapers based in Atlanta and led by its officers and an 18-member board.
