Leggings, scarves and tunics are big for the little ones this season.
"We are seeing more trendy fashions for kids," said April Morrison, set execution manager at J.C. Penney, Hamilton Place. "It's a little adult look."
The silhouette, she said, is bigger on top with tunics and skinny at the bottom with leggings. Short skirts, plaid prints and lots of color round out the equation.
"We're also seeing this in the junior sizes," Ms. Morrison said.
Fashion trends for children begin with toddlers. "But at that age, there's a twist," she said. "The fashions are still more baby looking."
J.C. Penney sales associate Faye Yancey said she enjoys buying the latest looks for her 2-year-old granddaughter.
"I like something fun," she said. "We like to layer clothing on her, especially when it's cold. She loves clothes and getting dressed up. When she goes to church, she has a lot more conservative look, but her play clothes are colorful and trendy."
