The Tennessee Art Therapy Association is holding the 2009 Connections Through Art Therapy conference today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Chattanooga State Community College. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
Cam Busch will speak on Art Therapy Innovations in Profession and Practice at the morning session. Workshops will be conducted by art therapists Jas Milam and Heather Stanley.

Free photo IDs for kids Sunday
Local representatives from Lifetouch National School Studios, a sponsor of the safety awareness program Take 25, will be at the Child Safety & Health Prevention fair Sunday hosted by North American Credit Services, 2810 Walker Road.
Lifetouch will take photographs and make free SmileSafe Kids cards for parents. In the event a child is missing, a SmileSafe card can be used by law enforcement to obtain a current photo from a rapid-response team staffed by Lifetouch.
Also participating in the free fair will be Collegedale Police Department, bike safety and child finger-printing education resources, Tennessee Safety Council with "Ollie the Otter", Chattanooga Fire Marshalls, YMCA, Kids on the Block, T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital Safe & Sound Program, Hamilton County Health Department, Parents Are First Teachers, Children's Advocacy Center, Blood Assurance, Beat the Heat race car team and face painting by the Chatta-Town-Clowns.
Breakfast helps Soddy band
A pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, Oct. 31, 7:30-10:30 a.m. to raise funds for Soddy-Daisy High School Band's trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade. The breakfast will be held in Clear Creek Church of Christ, 5612 Hixson Pike.
The breakfast will feature Aretha Frankenstein's pancake mix and the Aretha Frankenstein hearse will be on-site.

Historical Society meets Sunday
The Walker County Historical Society will meet Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the LaFayette-Walker County Library. Visitors are welcome.
The program will be a lecture and photo display related to the history of Ashland, the Patten family estate in Chattanooga Valley, presented by Lavonne Jolley.
Hospice seeks toiletries
Each holiday season, Hospice of Chattanooga prepares 500 toiletry gift bags for patients. The agency is seeking donations from the public for inclusion in these gift bags.
Items needed are washcloths, wipes, lip balm, chewing gum, candy, toothpastes, and toothbrushes. Travel-size lotions, powders, shampoos, mouthwash, and hand sanitizer are also accepted.
Items may be delivered to any of the following Hospice of Chattanooga locations: 4411 Oakwood Drive or 165 Hamm Road in Chattanooga; 4926-B Main St., Jasper, Tenn.; 1217 LaFayette Rd., Rossville; or 2145 Keith St. Cleveland, Tenn.

Leadership lunch deadline Nov. 2
"Game Day Strategies: The Importance of Teamwork and Mentoring" will be the topic of the second in the Chattanooga Women's Leadership Institute's Leadership Luncheon series. The event will take place Friday, Nov. 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the Roosevelt Room of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo.
Helen Davis Johnson, co-founder of CreateHere, and Nicole Brown, adjunct professor in the UTC Communications Department, will be the presenters. Ann Coulter will moderate the discussion.

Legos needed by Habitat
Do you have any extra bags of Legos lurking in your closet? You can help provide a fun children's activity by donating Legos and similar building blocks to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga by Dec. 1. The blocks will be used in a Lego building event during this year's MainX24 celebration on Dec. 6.
After the competition, Habitat will donate the blocks to area charities serving children.

A free job fair will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus of the University of Phoenix, 1208 Pointe Centre Drive, Suite 100.

Mayol talk about exercise benefits
BenchMark Physical Therapy, 1480 E. Third S., is hosting a free seminar Friday from noon to 3 p.m. with guest speaker Dr. Bryan Mayol, medical director of sports medicine and university health at Erlanger. Dr. Mayol's talk on the benefits of exercise will begin at 2 p.m.
Dr. Mayol relocated to Chattanooga in July of this year from Minneapolis, where he practiced with Minnesota Sports Medicine. He was Venue Medical Supervisor at the 2002 Winter Olympics and medical director for the 2004 FIBA World Basketball Championships.

Wilderness workshop Oct. 31
Tennessee Wild will host a Wilderness Workshop at the Chattanooga Nature Center on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The workshop is free and open to the public. Childcare will be provided.
Representatives from Campaign for America's Wilderness and The Wilderness Society will be on hand for this interactive training. Attendees will learn how they can get involved with the Cherokee National Forest.

'Breakfast with Dad' set Oct. 31
First Things First and Chick-fil-A at Gunbarrel Pointe are co-hosting a fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. with the theme "Breakfast with Dad." The event will include buffet breakfast, sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting, inflatables and costume contest.
Kids are encouraged to dress up their dads to compete in the costume contest. A prize will be given for the most creative costume. Each dad in costume is also eligible for a variety of door prizes to be given away at the event.

Ghost tours set in Dalton, Ga.
Dalton Ghost Tours will be offering 90-minute walking tours on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 and 9 p.m. through the end of this month and through November.
Join storyteller Connie Scott and her actors for a journey into Dalton, Ga.'s haunted places. Sites visited include the Wink Theatre, Dalton Little Theatre, a hanging bridge, Old Hotel Dalton and haunted railroad tracks.

Engineers Club meets Monday
The Chattanooga Engineers Club will meet Monday at noon in the Doubletree Hotel, 407 Chestnut St.
The program will be on "World-Wide Web-Based Engineering Student Laboratories" by Dr. Jim Henry and Alan Voss. The two recently traveled to Yerevan, Armenia, to install remote electronic access to laboratories at Yerevan's Engineering University.
Through a Web interface, students in Armenia will be able to run experiments in the laboratory in Chattanooga, and students in Chattanooga will be able to run experiments in the Armenian labs. The work in Armenia is supported by a grant from NATO Science for Peace Program to Dr. Henry at UTC, the State Engineering University in Armenia and a grant from the Engineering Information Foundation.
Health Science Center opening
Chattanooga State Community College will celebrate the opening of its new state-of-the-art Health Science Center on Tuesday at its Amnicola Highway campus. The public may tour the facility from 4 to 6 p.m., and meet with faculty.
Teen Challenge sale set today
Teen Challenge is sponsoring an estate/rummage sale today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its location on 1108 W. 33rd St. All proceeds will benefit the ministry to help individuals with addictions.
Among items to be sold are vintage wooden dining sets, electronics, keyboard, bedroom suits, living room furniture, lamps, shelves, workout equipment, kids toys, Christmas items, silver, crystal, china, silver-plated items, costume and antique jewelry, vintage hats and purses, linens, pottery lamps and office furniture.

Kiwanis dinner scheduled Nov. 1
The Hixson Kiwanis Club's fall ham and chicken dinner will be held Sunday, Nov. 1, in the new Hixson Middle School cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
The fundraiser helps Kiwanians support community projects, scholarships, Scout troops and other organizations in the Hixson area.

Dancesport show tonight
Chattanooga Dancesport will present a dance showcase, "Shadows and Dreamscapes," tonight at 7:30 in the Humanities Building at Chattanooga State Community College. Tickets are $20 adults, $12.50 for children under 12.
The show will feature professionals and amateurs in all styles of partnership dance as seen on TV shows like "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance."
Vendors sought for church festival
Vendor applications are still being accepted for the fall festival at Trinity Lutheran Church, which will be held Nov. 7 at the church, 5001 Hixson Pike.
There is a $20 fee for a 10-foot-square space. A table and two chairs may be rented for an additional $5.
