Enrichment opportunities

* Dr. Jerry Wright, an ordained Presbyterian minister, pastoral counselor and licensed professional counselor in Flat Rock, N.C., will be the featured speaker for the fall conference on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7, at Church of Good Shepherd-Episcopal, 211 Franklin Road, on Lookout Mountain. This year's topic is "Individuation: The Soul's Pilgrimage," which will be explored through lecture, story, journaling and directed silences. The cost for both sessions is $60. The cost for the 7:30-9 p.m. Friday session is $20; the cost for the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday session is $40. Lunch is available for an additional $10 but must be preordered by Tuesday. Lecture series

* The Rev. Paul-Gordon Chandler, a United State Episcopal priest working in the Middle East, will be the speaker for Lee University's Middle East Lecture Series, "Salaam on Islam: Waging Peace on Muslims in the Spirit of Christ," on Tuesday at the school in Cleveland, Tenn. The free sessions will be at 10:30 a.m. in the Dixon Center Chapel, a question and answer session (with lunch) in the Centenary Room at 11:40 a.m. and a lecture and book signing at 7 p.m. in Jones Lecture Hall. * "The Beginning of Judaism," a free, 24-part video lecture series involving the origin of the Hebrew faith, will be offered beginning Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., at Beth Sholom, 20 Pisgah Ave. The first lecture is "Beginning of Judiasm -- Biblical Roots." Subsequent lectures will be on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, concluding in October 2010. The series is taught by professor Isaiah M. Gafni of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and each lecture will be followed by a half-hour discussion period. People of all faiths are invited, and light refreshments will be served. Music opportunities

* The Senior Choir of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St., will present Gabriel Fauré's Requiem on Sunday at 6 p.m. The work's musical movements will be interspersed with readings and prayers from the Jewish and Christian traditions. The choir will be led by newly appointed director of music Keith S. Reas, highlighted by soprano soloist Mary Whitmire and baritones Zach Cavan and Brandon Mozingo, and accompanied by chamber orchestra and organ. The candlelight setting will double as a service of remembrance of those who have died. A reception will follow the performance. For information, call the church at 266-8195.

* The MacDowell Music Club of Chattanooga will present its second Morning Musicale of the 2009-2010 season on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brainerd Baptist Church, 300 Brookfield Ave. The featured performers are Dr. Bruce Ashton, Jeannie Sawyer, Rachael Henderson, Ann Pope and Jay Craven, and the free program will include choral and instrumental works by Bachelet, Bizet, Duke, Floyd, Gershwin, Handel, Lehar, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini and Verdi. * The Berry College Brass Ensemble will offer its free fall program at First Baptist Church, 411 College St., in Calhoun, Ga., on Sunday at 7 p.m.; at Riverside Baptist Church, 48 Ash St., in Rome, Ga., on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m.; and at Garden Lakes Baptist Church, 2200 Redmond Circle, in Rome, Ga., on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. The program will include "How Brightly Beams the Morning Star" by J.S. Bach; "Fanfare and Ballad" by Carrol M. Butts; "Salvation Is Created" by Pavel Tschesnokoff; and arrangements of "How Firm a Foundation," "Angels We Have Heard on High," "The Solid Rock," "Brethren, We Have Met to Worship," "Glory Bound" and a medley of gospel tunes by ensemble director Dr. Stan Pethel.
