Ted Agee

Ted Wayne Agee, 71, of Hixson, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends.

A native of Pikeville, Tenn., he had worked for Combustion Engineering and owned Agee Septic and Plumbing Service for over 35 years. From 1958 to 1962 he served with the U.S. Air Force, spending three years in France and England. Ted was a member of the Masonic Lodge 427, the Scottish Rite, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Agee; son, Todd Agee; parents, Clarence and Mabel Agee; brother, Wallace Agee and nephew Richard Agee.

Survivors include his precious love, Jerrie; daughter, Tara Agee Goddard; son, Alex Agee; stepdaughters, Vicki (Mike) Middleton, of Hixson; Valerie (Bob) Eberhart, of Evansville, Ind., Chris (Jamie) Taylor, of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Jami Boling, of Hartford, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Agee, of Hixson, and Carol (Claude) Wood, of Pikeville; two brothers, Perry (Jeannine) Agee, of Dayton, Ohio, and Pat (Francis) Agee, of Pikeville; one sister-in-law, Jamie Agee, of Chattanooga; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. CDT at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Doyle Ashburn officiating.

Burial will be in Parham Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Whatley Bryan, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her residence.

Erma Jean Gilbert, 68, of Chattanooga, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at her residence.

Joe Gribben

Joseph Gribben, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was born July 11, 1928 to the late James and Lenora Gribben.

Mr. Gribben was a 1946 graduate of Notre Dame High School and Assumption College in Windsor, Canada. He was an Ohio Valley Conference Football Official for 15 years, as well as the T.S.S.A.A. for 25 years.

Joe was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Gribben.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Marcia Gribben; children, Kathy (Kenny) Mara and Tommy (Theresa) Gribben, all of Hixson; Jodie (Tommy) Wilson, of Nashville; Patty (Bill) Marsh and Gina (Rob) Gaddis, all of Hixson; Jeff Gribben, of Red Bank; brother, Tom (Judith) Gribben, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Kristy, Kari, Mandy, Pat, Ben, Amy, Tracey, Michael, Matthew, Kelli, Lauren, Lindsey and Abbie; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kenneth Levi

Kenneth Wayne Levi, 53, of Sale Creek, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009.

He was a member of Sale Creek First Baptist Church. Mr. Levi was also a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local #5; a member of Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM, Sale Creek Masonic Lodge #280 F&AM, an honorary member of Red Bank Masonic Lodge #717 F&AM, a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple and a member of Mayflower OES Chapter of the Eastern Star #141.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth B. and Betty Jean Levi.

He is survived by his wife, Delethia Levi; sons, D.J. Levi, Zach Levi; daughter, Stormi Levi (Josh) Rogers; sisters, Sandy Levi Green, Debra “Dirkey” Levi; Jennifer Levi (Jarrett) McNabb; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home followed by a Masonic Service conducted by Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM.

Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery on Signal Mountain.

Hubert Murrell

Hubert Dale Murrell, of Birchwood, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009.

She was born Aug. 27, 1938.

Survivors include daughter, Sue (Jimmy) Hart; son, Matthew (Paula) Murrell; grandchildren, Jason Hart, Jeff Hart, Connor Murrell, Jared Murrell; and two great-grandchildren.

Jessie Petty

Jessie Ruth Hickman Petty passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.

She was born April 17, 1919, to the late Sam and Ola McGill Hickman of Soddy, Tenn. Jessie was a loving mother, a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, and a lifelong member of the Mayflower Chapter of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul W. Petty; brothers, Carl, Lewis and Bob Hickman; and twin sister, Grace Nunley.

She is survived by daughter, Marcella Shipley; son, Samuel (Pat) Petty; granddaughters, Kim Shipley and Sara Petty; grandson, Mike Shipley; half sister, Sara Elizabeth Brown, of Rome, Ga.; and half brother, Jack Hickman, of Soddy.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David McNabb officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Margaret Sanders, 88, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at a local healthcare facility.

Richard Schmitt

Richard “Dick” Schmitt, 78, of Chattanooga, left this earth to go home to Heaven on Friday Oct. 30, 2009.

He was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, papaw and brother. Richard was an active member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the East Lake Lodge and Alhambra Shrine where he rode in the Honda Unit. He was a residential builder for many years as a partner with J.W. Walters in S&W Construction and their reputation of building excellent homes was known throughout Chattanooga.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Schmitt (they would have celebrated their 57 year anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 1). Daughters, Cathy Ashby and husband, Steve. Gayle Schoenborn and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Brent Ashby, Tyson Ashby, Nick Schoenborn and Jennifer Schoenborn; great-grandchildren, Gavin Ashby, Hilary Ashby and Riley Ashby; brothers, Bill Schmitt, Bob Schmitt and Jim Schmitt; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Mason and the Rev. Dr. David King officiating.

The interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

Edgar Vickers

Edgar “Vick” Vickers, 78, of Hixson, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.

Edgar was born in Manchester, Tenn., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He served our country during the Korean War in the U. S. Air Force. Edgar retired from DuPont with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church. Edgar was an avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Pervie Crosslin Vickers; siblings, Melvin Vickers and Dean Frizzell.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 48 years, Billie Burns Vickers; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Allan Gayler; grandson, Ethan Gayler; sisters, Gladys Bell, Lois Frizzell, Lura Green, and Naomi (Herbert) Morrison, all of Manchester, Tenn.; brothers, Claude Vickers and Dickie (Caroline) Vickers, of Manchester, Tenn., Danny (Joan) Vickers, of Murfreesboro; brother-in-law, Culley Frizzell; several nieces and nephews and many friends and family.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. today at the North Chapel.

Services for Edgar will be held at 2 p.m. today at the North Chapel with Rev. Randy Bell officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Bertha Vickery

Bertha S. Vickery died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, after an extended battle with cancer.

She was born in Cullman, Ala. on Aug. 18, 1935 to the late Joseph and Florence Speegle. She moved to Chattanooga, in 1971 with her late husband, Ted Vickery. She retired after 20 years employment at Blood Assurance in 2008.

She was also employed many years at Wilkins Research in Chattanooga.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Tubbs (Wanda), Lake City, Fla. and Patrick Vickery, Chattanooga; two daughters, Sharon Herrod (Jerry) and Susan Phillips (Rick), of Chattanooga; and six grandchildren, Allison Phillips, Jeremy Herrod (Nicole), Leah Acree (Jason), Joey Tubbs (Julia), Julie Triplett (Dustin), Jana Camp (Kris); and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Bonnie McCluskey, Frances Phillips and Barbara Tubbs, all from Cullman, Ala.

A Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. CDT Monday, Nov. 2, at Cullman City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. CDT Sunday at Moss Service Funeral Home, Cullman, Ala.

NIOTA — Margaret Phyllis Perkins Collins, 65, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Sweetwater Hospital.

James Johnson

DUNLAP — James Earl Johnson, 69, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Lectie Johnson; sisters, Velma Johnson and Mary Helen Edgmon.

He is survived by sister, JoAnn (David) Barker; aunt, Fronie Hennessee, Spencer; nephews, Shawn (Kelly) Edgmon and David (Rochelle) Barker, all of Dunlap; nieces, Amanda (Pitt) Derryberry, Bowling Green, Ky., and Beverly (Mark) Henry, Dunlap.

LENOIR CITY — Jessie Huggins Towns, 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at 6:59 p.m. Jessie died as she lived praising her Lord and Savior, and a song in her heart for the many blessings He has given her over the years.

She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was known for her Sweet Spirit and warm smile.

Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Kelsey Towns Sr.; son, Robert Kelsey Towns Jr.; parents, Bob and Della Huggins; sisters, Ozaline and Viola; and brother, Willie.

Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Sandra Towns, all of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Teresa Holland, Ken Wheeler Jr., Kelly Stacy, Robbie Towns and Susan Towns; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Kelsey, Trey, Lauren and Robbie.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Summit View Nursing Home and the Jamestown Staff for their special care and the love that was shown to Jessie while she was there.

Pocket Community — Robert D. Turner, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at his home.

He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was born on Dec. 23, 1922 to Tom and Minnie Morton Turner who preceded him in death along with his wife, Mille Mae Turner; brothers, Charles Turner and Willis B. “Dub” Turner; sisters, Ethel Ward and Jewell Nunley.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth W. (Ann) Turner, Paul R. “Brownie” (Sharon) Turner and Sammy C. (Eunice) Turner; grandson, Casey Turner, all of the Pocket Community; sisters, Ruby Pugh, Jasper and Margaret Warren, Dunlap; special friend, Patty Rollins Wade, Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.

Betty Reeves

TRENTON — Betty Ruth Wooten Reeves passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Oct. 29, 2009, at age 87.

Born on Aug. 26, 1922, to the late James “Dee” and Louvenia Forester Wooten, she attended school in Dade County and was married to the late Wayland E. “Gene” Reeves Sr. for 33 years. A member of White Oak Baptist Church, she was passionate about flower gardening, nature, poetry, doll making and quilting. She was well known and loved by her friends and family for her strong-mindedness and sheer determination.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewell Gass and Mae Howard; three brothers, Robert Wooten, Bill Wooten and James Wooten; two sons, Bobby Reeves (Pam) and Wayland E. Reeves Jr.

She is survived by three children, Sharon Moore (Gary), Jerry Reeves (Gail), Jimmy Reeves (Linda); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be at Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton on Monday, 11 a.m., with burial immediately following at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

MENLO — Kay Merritt Willingham, 50, died Friday, Oct., 30, 2009.

HENAGAR — Carl L. Cushen, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Burial followed in Destiny’s Garden.

VALLEY — Clyde Dell “Short” Hall, 76, died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at his residence.

HOLLYWOOD — Joe Wilson Stewart, 53, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 at UAB.

Visitation will be today, 5-9 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, Ala.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. CDT Sunday at the funeral home chapel.

Interment will be at Longacre Cemetery in Stevenson, Ala.

DAVIE, Fla. — Lillian Eileen Gilbert, 86, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.

She was born March 24, 1923 in Chattanooga. Lillian was predeceased by her husband of 50 years C.L. Gilbert Sr.

Survivors include her children, C.L. Gilbert Jr. (Judy), of Chattanooga, Brenda Sue (Joe) Matherson, of Chattanooga, Deborah (Kim) Nelson, of Davie, Fla.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Reed.
