Side Orders: Experts add joy to wedding day

Braly: Bill proposes banning salt in restaurants

It's hard to believe I've reached this milestone in my life. I'm now a mother-in-law, with a boy in the family to call my own. My oldest of three daughters married a couple of weeks ago at Miller Plaza.

This downtown setting was a lovely place to have a wedding, and the weather gods were kind. Despite gloomy weather before and after, the weekend was a standout, with sunshine and warm temps. The day couldn't have been better.

Of course, the best part was the friends and family who gathered to share the day. I can't believe we pulled it off. I think my daughter, the bride, had this planned for years. She's an architect, so schematic drawings were included in her vision of the perfect day. All of her work and planning paid off.

It was a beautiful event, made even more so by those who contributed their talents to help us. Without these experts, the day might have seemed more like a job than a celebration.

Michelle Huffman Wells and her crew at Events With Taste catering presented a tasty menu of heavy hors d'oeuvres. Everything was done to her standard of perfection.

Grafe Studios did the flowers. The bouquets and arrangements were among the most beautiful I've ever seen. The architectural details of Waterhouse Pavilion made a magnificent backdrop for their floral artistry.

Ricky and Pam Crook at The Meeting Place were quick in and out for setting up all the chairs.

And a fun place for a rehearsal dinner? The third floor of The Terminal Brewhouse. What a great time we had.

Best wishes, Annie and Jared. It sounds corny, but it seems like yesterday I was watching you, Annie, take your first steps around the house. Watching you take them down the aisle, my baby girl, continues to bring tears of joy, even as I write this.

The Melting Pot, Chattanooga's only fondue restaurant and one of my favorites, is supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation by donating $10 for every pot of cheese fondue sold this Sunday. If you've never tried the cheese fondue, you should make it a priority to visit. It's the best I've ever had. If you have tried it, then you must know what I'm talking about. The Melting Pot is at 2553 Lifestyle Way off Shallowford Road right across from Hamilton Place.
