NASHVILLE -- Tennessee Gov.-elect Bill Haslam announced Monday that the former executive editor and publisher of the Chattanooga Times Free Press is joining his transition team.

On a temporary, part-time basis, Tom Griscom will help Haslam assemble a communications team and develop a communications plan, according to a news release.

"Tom has a long and successful career that spans both the media and the communications arenas, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table," Haslam said in the release.

Earlier this year, Griscom, 61, left the Times Free Press, where he had served as publisher and executive editor since 1999.

He previously served as press secretary to former Sen. Howard Baker, R-Tenn., and later as White House communications director for then-President Ronald Reagan.
