Geneva Bouchard

Geneva F. Bouchard, 94, a 25 year resident of Signal Mountain, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Alexian Village.

She was an active member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raoul Bouchard; parents, Robert and Flossie Floyd; sisters, Delila Sanderson and Esther Mims; and brothers, Paul, Jennings and George Robert Floyd.

Survivors include her son, Paul J. Bouchard, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Adam, Whitney and Scott; sister, Sarah Floyd, of Florence, S.C.; and nieces, Ann, Patricia and Janice.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

Andy Cranfield

James Anderson "Andy" Cranfield, of Hixson, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, after a brief illness. He was 85.

He was born in Rockwood, Tenn., and as a child his family moved to Middle Valley. He was a lifelong resident of Middle Valley and Hixson. He worked for Coca- Cola Co. and later was owner of Hixson Packing Co. for 25 years.

He graduated from Hixson High School in 1942. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a medical corpsman attached to the Marines. He participated in the invasions of several islands in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Alhambra Shrine, Hixson Masonic Lodge 727 and a former President of the Chattanooga Big Game Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Margaret; also by his parents, Franklin Earl Cranfield Sr. and Annie Smith; his brother, Franklin Earl "Buck" Cranfield Jr.; and sister, Elena Hixson.

He is survived by a son, Glen "Sparky" Campbell and his wife, Teresa, of Hixson; daughter, Cindy (Linda) Campbell, of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) McBrien, of Hixson, and Brian (Joccelyn) Campbell, of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Derrek McBrien and Dylan McBrien, of Hixson; nieces, Sis Jackson, Vonda Brasier and Pat Cook; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Idella Bell Davis passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in a local hospital.

Hayes Garland, 93, of East Brainerd, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in a local health care facility.

Kevin William Gregory, 34, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in a local hospital.

Mr. Gregory was an electrician with ECI Industrial for the past five years. He was a member of Dixon's Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dixon Springs, Tenn.

He is survived by his parents, Roger and Barbara Gregory, Chattanooga; brother, Eric Gregory and his wife, Kristin, Chattanooga; niece, Callie Gregory; and nephew, Will Gregory.

Bobby Holloway, 73, of Jonesville, Mich., formerly of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.

He was born in Soddy-Daisy and went to Church of God of Prophecy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mayme Holloway; brothers, Buck, Red, Rev. Oscar Jr., George and Jacky Holloway; and sisters, Alice Smith and Barbara Fisher.

Rev. Richard Key II

The Rev. Richard Key II, 33, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, in his sleep at his home in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.

Richard was president and CEO of After His Heart Ministries Inc., http://afterhisheartministries.blogspot.com. He served as Director of Athletics and Community Relations at the West Nairobi School, http://www.westnairobi school.org.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shauna; parents, Deborah and Dr. Michael Chitwood and Richard (Kyra) Key; sister, Julie Meadows; nieces, Alexis, Madison and Jayla; and grandmothers, Martha Fields and Esther Key.

The couple had previously resided in Mesa, Ariz. Richard was a graduate of the University of Phoenix and the International House of Prayer, Kansas City.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Grace Church of the Nazarene Friday Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dorothy M. Maddux, 101, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.

Dorothy was born on Aug. 16, 1908, in Dayton, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Ross R. Maddux, and her infant son, Conard Ross Maddux.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte M. Frost; son-in-law, Jack L. Frost; grandson, Steven L. Frost (Lisa); granddaughter, Susan F. Bishop (Mike); great-granddaughter, Amy F. Haddock (John); great-grandsons, Jonathan D. Frost (Lindsey), David M. Bishop, William J. Bishop and Benjamin R. Bishop; and great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte Ann Haddock, Eli Haddock, Laney Frost and Sally Frost.

Dorothy was the oldest living member of White Oak Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. She was a faithful member serving her church and community until her declining health prevented her from doing so.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at White Oak Baptist Church with Dr. John Franklin and Dr. Tony Wilson officiating.

Lucile P. Mitchell, 85, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010.

She retired from Erlanger hospital.

Dennie "Pappy" Townson, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at his home.

He attended Center Grove Baptist Church. Dennie has been retired for 20 years after working in the Moving Industry for more than 30 years. During that time he owned and operated D&M and American Moving & Storage in Chattanooga. Dennie and his wife would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in September of this year.

He was preceded in death by his father, Audie Townson; mother, Nora Townson; and brother, James Townson.

SOUTH PITTSBURG -- Rebecca Ann Knight Butler, 73, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Butler was a lifelong resident of South Pittsburg where she was a member of Richard City Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the owner and operator of Becky's Beauty Shop in South Pittsburg for 39 years, and she was also a CNA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Butler; parents, Dero and Nettie Pearl Knight; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Bruce Belk; three grandchildren, Jamie, Dakota and Preston Belk, all of South Pittsburg; one brother; several sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Sgt. Major Cecil Hatfield

CLEVELAND -- Sgt. Major Cecil Ray "The Hat" Hatfield, 70, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.

He was born in Chattanooga to the late John and Viola Hatfield. He also was preceded in death by his brother, David Franklin Hatfield; daughter, Diana Lynn Hatfield; and first wife, Doris May Hatfield.

Cecil played college football at Auburn University, Navy, and walked on with the Oakland Raiders, where he played for a short time before he answered the call and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he once again went back to war and fought in the Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom, where he received injuries that forced him to retire.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Samples, of Cleveland; children, Donna Rhodes-Woody, of Harrison, Pamela Hodgson and Michael Samples, both of Cleveland, Ike Samples Jr., of Tallahassee, Fla.; siblings, Jim "Ed" Hatfield, of Glenburnie, Md., Floral "Cricket" Boykin and Arthur Hatfield, both of York, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held noon Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, in the chapel with the military chaplain officiating.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full honors.

ROSSVILLE -- Bonnie Ruth Flarity, 80, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in Smithville, Tenn., after an extended illness in the presence of her family.

She was born April 29, 1929, and lived a very long and happy life in Rossville. She worked at the Crystal Springs Bleachery for several years and then retired in 1994 from NHC as a Care Giver after more than 21 years of service.

She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Omey Hix; two brothers, William and Homer "Bud" Hix; sister, Geneva Hix; two husbands, John Flarity and Ed Bailey; son, Ricky Flarity; daughter, Linda Hughes; and great-granddaughter, Melissa Espy.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Mangrum and Kathy Easton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Doyle (Cindy) Flarity, Donald Flarity and Ronald (Jeanette) Flarity; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and her companion, Precious.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel.

Burial will follow in Old Trion Cemetery.

RINGGOLD -- Jewell Katherine Master Rhinehart, 85, passed peacefully away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at her residence.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area she was a member of Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle and a former employee of Man Power. Jewell was a loving and caring person who will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Rhinehart; parents, Leonard and Annie Master; two sisters, Gertrude Master and Margaret Rogers; and two brothers, Rueben and John Lee Master.

She is survived by her son, Terry (Leona) Rhinehart, of Ringgold; daughter, Janice Hulgan, of Ringgold; brother, Dewey Master, of Chattanooga; sister, Betty Bogozan, of Douglasville, Ga.; three granddaughters, Karen (Dan) Sims, Cindy (Jarrod) Grant and Christy (John) Watson; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harold Howell officiating.

Interment will follow at New Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday until funeral time at the funeral home.

Socorro Roco

TRENTON -- Socorro Roco, 84, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.

She attended Calvary Baptist Church, and was a member of the Dade Co. Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose C. Roco.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST Saturday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Wallace officiating.

Interment will be in Trenton Baptist Cemetery.

ROSSVILLE -- Dr. Homer Smith, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010.

ROSSVILLE -- Vivian Lynn Townsend, 73, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.

She was born in Chattanooga on April 2, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Rossville. A devoted Christian woman and a shut in member of Moriah Baptist Church.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Townsend; parents, Mr. And Mrs. Will A Lynn; brother, Barney Lynn; and infant sister June Lynn.

She is survived by her brothers, Paul Lynn (Frida), C.W. Lynn; sisters, Dorothy Wallin, Willie Faye Early (Gene); sister-in-law, Wilma Sizemore; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Brother Randy Lynn, Brother Jay Walthour and Brother Gene Early officiating.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2010, all day Thursday and prior to the service Friday.

TRENTON -- Robert Edward Wooten, 68, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.

He was a truck driver for Sequatchie Concrete and was a music lover. He played many different instruments and played with several local bands including bluegrass, country and gospel bands.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B I and Pearlie Wooten; his brother, Johnny Wooten; and sister, Eva Mae Summerford.

Survivors include Margaret Black Wooten; three daughters, Tonya Black, Velvet Fitzsimmons and Darlene Hamilton; son, Steve Tourigney; three sisters, Luis Robertson, Linda McLeod, Gloria Parker; two brothers, Raymond Wooten, Willard Wooten; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday in Trenton Baptist Cemetery.

W.L. Mullens

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- W.L. Mullens, 75, passed away in peace Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, with his loving family at his bedside.

His family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Haigh-Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach.

A private service with internment following will be held for the family Friday.

Mr. Mullens was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Rossville to parents Mary Stallings and Joseph W. Mullens. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Chattanooga, where he also met his beloved wife, Barbara, of 49 years. W.L. taught for two years in Hamilton County, Tenn., prior to following Barbara to Ormond Beach. They were married in the chapel on the campus of the University of Chattanooga in 1960.

Mr. Mullens began his career in education in Volusia County as a teacher at North Ridgewood and Hurst Elementary Schools. His first appointment as a school principal came at Riverview Elementary. He was later appointed to become the first principal of Tomoka Elementary School. He left Tomoka to serve as an elementary school supervisor of Volusia County before returning to his first love, Tomoka School, for a second term as principal. He retired in 1991 after serving in Volusia County for 31 years. Mr. Mullens was a distinguished educator, recognized as Outstanding Young Educator from the Greater Ormond Beach Jaycees in 1971, and Volusia County School Principal of the Year in 1988. Tomoka School was recognized as one of Florida's Top 21 Distinguished Elementary Schools 1988, and was also a finalist in the United States Elementary School Recognition Program in the same year. He served as president of the Halifax Teacher's Federal Credit Union; served for many years on the Board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, accrediting schools throughout the Southeastern United States; and served as president of the local Association for Early Childhood Education. Mr. Mullens has left a legacy of excellence and genuine love for his students and teachers that is widely remembered nearly 20 years after his retirement. W.L.'s passion was gardening, which he developed into a second career as a landscaper and plant nursery owner. He will be remembered most in this community for his unusual sense of social responsibility, love and compassion for others. He never ever failed to help someone in need, nor met a person who was not instantly his friend.

W.L.'s happiest days were those spent with his family that he loved so deeply, his wife, Barbara; son, Richard, and his wife Sherrill, Jacksonville; daughter, Kimberly Corso, and her husband, David, Orlando; and grandchildren, Jordan, Olivia, Tucker and Lily. He is survived by his sisters, Sarah Wethers and Frances Smith, Rossville; sister, Lucille Pennington, Tampa; and brothers, Boyd and Bill Mullens, Rossville.
