Stars rebound to defeat Lookouts 4-1

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- One night after Corey Smith's two-run double to center field catapulted Chattanooga to a 4-1 win in 15 innings against the Huntsville Stars, the Lookouts lost by the same score in nine innings Friday.

The Lookouts were no match for Huntsville starting pitcher Chris Cody. He struck out eight batters in eight scoreless innings, and his double to right field in the sixth inning scored Lee Haydel to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. They doubled that advantage in the seventh.

Chattanooga (7-4) finally got on board with two outs in the ninth when Smith tripled and scored on an Andrew Lambo single.

The finale of the six-game series in Huntsville is tonight, starting at 7 EDT. Brent Leach (2-1, 5.27 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Michael Bowman (7-6, 5.75) scheduled for the Stars.

Lookouts shortstop Dee Gordon will bat leadoff in the Southern League All-Star game July 12, while Smith will play third and hit fifth.
