Tennessee: Ramsey has $1.35 million war chest for campaign

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

NASHVILLE - Republican Ron Ramsey spent $1.13 million on his campaign for governor in the second quarter and had $1.35 million cash in hand as of July 1, his latest financial disclosure shows.

Lt. Gov. Ramsey, R-Blountville, raised just $278,257 between April 1 and June 30, the lowest amount of any of the three Republican candidates.

As the state Senate speaker, he was unable to raise money during the recent legislative session until May 15 due to a ban on in-session fundraising by incumbent legislators.

Most of his second quarter spending - about $875,000 - was for television advertising or advertising production costs.

The GOP primary is Aug. 5. Early voting begins Friday.
