Cancer seminar

Memorial Health Care System will sponsor a free "Nourishing Your Spirit through the Journey of Cancer " seminar at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, as part of the Strong and Smart: Living Well With Cancer seminar series. Participants can learn, from the comfort of their homes or offices about the importance of caring for the spirit when facing cancer on. To register call 800-278-7837.

Weight loss surgery

The Gastric Band Institute will hold a free seminar on gastric banding (Lap-Band and Realize Band) and the new sleeve procedure for people who are 100 pounds overweight. Asthma screening

Free asthma screening 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Orchard Knob Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 1734 E. Third St. sponsored by Not One More Life Inc., Volunteer State Health Plan and T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital. Food, door prizes: one girl's and one boy's bike with helmets. Adaptive tai ji (tai chi)

Tai ji (tai chi) is a form of exercise. Learn such basic skills as breathing techniques, visualization and body posture. This free class from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday will be at the Fitness Center at Siskin Hospital. No registration necessary. HealthLink plus free membership is required. Diabetes diet class

For those wanting to learn more about diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting, attend this class at Memorial's Diabetes and Nutrition Center on Friday at 12:45 p.m. at Memorial Hospital. It also will be presented at 12:45 p.m. Monday at Memorial North Park Hospital. The center can help you obtain a physician's referral and provide cost information. Registration is required.
