The University of Georgia had three sports that topped the Southeastern Conference in the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores released Wednesday, and all 20 sports fielded by the school were well above the 925 cutoff point.

Georgia's gymnastics, women's basketball and men's golf teams led the SEC, with women's basketball and men's golf scoring a perfect 1,000.

"We continue to perform well with our APR numbers, and that's a testament to our student-athletes' hard work, as well as the efforts of everyone involved in supporting their academic endeavors," Georgia athletic director Damon Evans said. "The improvement in scores from last year for 11 of our teams is also a great indicator for our programs moving forward. We'll continue our commitment to graduation and helping our student-athletes reach their goals."

Georgia's football APR of 973 was just two points shy of league-leading Vanderbilt, while the men's basketball score of 944 ranked fifth in the conference.

English recognized

Georgia junior golfer Harris English was selected Wednesday as a second-team All-American by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America. The former Baylor School standout finished the season ranked eighth nationally by the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, and he was one of the 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award.

English, who was a third-team All-American as a freshman and a sophomore, finished his junior year with a 71.86 scoring average.

Marshall commits

The Bulldogs are up to 10 in-state football commitments and 11 overall for the 2011 signing class after receiving a nonbinding pledge from Nick Marshall from Rochelle. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder quarterbacks Wilcox County but will play cornerback at Georgia.

Rivals.com rates Marshall, who chose the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Tennessee, as the No. 31 athlete prospect nationally.
