Nivar, Smith lead Lookouts over Braves

PEARL, Miss. -- Ramon Nivar went 5-for-5 and Corey Smith drove in four runs as the Chattanooga Lookouts beat the Mississippi Braves 11-3 in the last game of their Southern League baseball series Monday night.

Chattanooga pounded out 17 hits in winning for the eighth time in nine games.

Nivar, who raised his Double-A average to .469, doubled to left field in the first inning to score Dee Gordon and came home on Smith's single to center to make it 2-0. Nivar singled to right in the fifth inning to score Gordon, who had tripled, and a Smith single to center scored Trayvon Robinson to give the Lookouts (30-33) a 4-0 lead.

Robinson went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, and every Lookouts position player had at least one hit.

Bobby Blevins, who was sent down from Albuquerque, pitched six innings for the win and did not allow a hit in the first four innings. Blevins got the start because Brent Leach had to serve the final game of a five-game suspension from the Pacific Coast League for throwing at a batter.

The Lookouts are off today before playing two seven-inning games Wednesday night at West Tenn. Mario Alvarez (4-3, 4.10 ERA) and Leach (0-0, 0.00) are the scheduled starting pitchers in Jackson, Tenn., for the Lookouts, with Steve Bray (4-3, 2.57) and Luis Munoz (1-4, 3.60) listed for the Diamond Jaxx.
