With summer merely weeks away, a new Curves location is aiming to help women shape up.
"Curves is a place for good solid fitness -- continuous fitness," said Dr. Michael Reynolds, owner of the business in its new location in Gunbarrel Galleria on Gunbarrel Road. It was previously on East Brainerd Road and has been owned by Dr. Reynolds, a retired U.S. Army chaplain, since July 2008.

Judy said she enjoys the new technology because it pushes her to next level building on her last workout. "It knows how hard you're working and let's you know when you're slacking," she said.
Curves is a Texas-based fitness company that has nearly 10,000 locations worldwide and almost 4 million members, according to Curves.com.
Its array of programs have helped spur its popularity among women, said Priscilla Caine, owner of the Signal Mountain Curves.
"Women are very busy these days -- to be able to get a workout in 30 minutes is very attractive," she said. "At most gyms, you spend at least an hour."
The new Gunbarrel location features a state-of-the-art feature known as "CurvesSmart" that helps its members track their workout progress in a new way, according to Dr. Reynolds.
"CurvesSmart is a computer system on each machine that is set to the profile of each individual person measuring different things during the workout, which gives them a printout," said Dr. Reynolds.
The 30-minute workout system dubbed the Curves Circuit allows users to burn calories through cardiovascular training, strength training and stretching exercises. Clients insert electronic keychips into each machine as they rotate through the circuits allowing the computer to track progress and compile a summary.

"It's a combination of strength and aerobics; it's quick, not monotonous," Curves member Laura Messersmith said. "It's very effective; you can come in and work every muscle."
Dr. Reynolds said the system is also becoming popular with physicians in part because it can be adapted to help achieve goals they have for their patients with weight and muscle development.
"Doctors like it because it provides feedback of very specific information that they could not get otherwise," he said.
The gym also offers a weight management program, a magazine and a program for members 65 and older.
