Chattanooga: Attorneys for mayor recall effort appeal judge's decision

Circuit Court Judge Jeff Hollingsworth said today he would rule Tuesday on whether he had authority to order that a question on recalling Mayor Ron Littlefield not be placed on the Nov. 3 election ballot.

Attorneys for the recall effort argued today in Circuit Court that no Circuit Court judge has stopped an election in Tennessee history. Attorneys for Littlefield said the judge did have jurisdiction in special circumstances and that an election without the required number of signatures would be "unlawful."

Hollingsworth ruled last month there would be no recall election because the recall group had not gathered the proper amount of signatures under state law.
