A Crossville, Ala, man was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with raping a 24-year-old woman in DeKalb County, Ala., authorities said.

Nicholas Jerome Sims, 29, had hired the woman to clean his house on County Road 104, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a news release this afternoon.

Police believe the alleged rape happened at midday Monday, Harris said. The woman was treated at Marshall Medical Center South and released.

Sims is charged with first-degree rape and is being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center on a $40,000 bond, Harris said.

He said Sims was awaiting trial in Etowah County on separate rape charges.
