The family of slain Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin, who was shot Saturday while responding to a robbery call on Brainerd Road, issued a statement this morning:
"Tim Chapin was well-respected among the CPD and his church as he faithfully served this community for 27 years," said Denise Craig, spokeswoman for the Chapin family and chief financial officer of Abba’s House, where the family attended church.
"The Chapin family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the support and prayers of the Chattanooga Police Department, Abba's House and the entire community during their time of loss," Craig wrote in the statement.
Chapin's memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Abba’s House.
The service will be streamed live at abbashouse.com.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office assisted by other local supporting agencies, will assume law enforcement services for the Chattanooga Police Department while their staff attends the funeral services for Sgt. Tim Chapin, according to a news release.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said officers from Collegedale, Soddy-Daisy, Red Bank Police, Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, East Ridge, Hamilton County Park Rangers and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will be on duty starting at 8 a.m. Thursday to answer calls.
