Brexler given honor as "Grassroots Champion"

Erlanger Hospital President Jim Brexler is the "Tennessee Grassroots Champion" this year for his leadership in generating community support for the state's hospitals.

The American Hospital Association (AHA), in partnership with the Tennessee Hospital Association (THA), announced today that Brexler received the honor in recognition of his support for the hospital industry and its main trade associations.

The AHA Grassroots Champion Award was created to recognize hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital's vital role in the community.

"We depend upon strong voices like Jim Brexler's to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve," said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO. "This award is a small token of our appreciation for his hard work and dedication to improving health and health care in America."

Brexler served as chairman of the Tennessee Hospital Authority board of directors in 2009-2010 and currently serves as immediate past chairman. He also has chaired the association's insurance reform task force, patient safety council and THA Solutions Group board of directors.

In addition, Brexler was a member of the AHA Governing Council for Healthcare Systems from 2002-2005 and chaired the council in 2004. He currently serves as a member of the AHA President's Forum for Health System Leaders.
