A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault and burglary in East Ridge, police say.

Selvin Velasquez has been charged with aggravated burglary, sexual battery, forgery and criminal simulation, according to East Ridge police spokesman Erik Hopkins.

When confronted by police, Velasquez handed over a Tennessee identification card, but it was fraudulent, Hopkins said, so his age is unclear because police are not sure of his real identity.

He is scheduled to be in East Ridge Municipal Court on April 19 at 5 p.m., according to a news release.

On Wednesday, East Ridge police responded to a burglary call from 507 S. St. Marks, Hopkins said. When they arrived, the female victim said her intoxicated neighbor had approached her outside her home and asked her several personal questions that made her uncomfortable.

She went back inside to her kitchen and, when she turned around, her neighbor was standing there, Hopkins said. He grabbed her and asked for a kiss and she pushed him away and told him to leave, but he then tried to put his hands down her pants, she told police.

The man eventually left and police found him next door at 505 S. St. Marks, where he was taken into custody without incident, Hopkins said.
