Central High School has named John Allen as its new head football coach.

Allen, who resigned as Silverdale Baptist Academy's head coach after last season, takes over for Sam Montgomery, who stepped down at Central last month.

"Me and my family are very grateful for our time at Silverdale Baptist and obviously I'm excited about this opportunity," Allen said. "I'm anxious to see what we can do but we're in a very competitive league."

Allen coached for five seasons at Silverdale Baptist, taking the Seahawks to their first playoff appearance. Prior to that he spent one season as Bradley Central's head coach and five at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, where he also built the Warriors into perennial playoff contenders.

In 11 years as a head coach, Allen is 66-54 overall.
