Chattanooga City Council to wait on sprinkler ordinance

The Chattanooga City Council voted 5-3 Tuesday night to defer a controversial sprinkler ordinance for night clubs for a week.

The ordinance has been debated for months and the council asked that an economic impact study be conducted. Local attorney Jerry Tidwell said today he is in the process of completing that study and needs another week to complete it.

The ordinance would give night club owners two years to install sprinkler systems. But the businesses say such systems are costly.
