A random drug check at Crossville High School this morning resulted in two arrests, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office in Alabama.

During the search, which involved K-9 units and extended inside the school and across school grounds, the dogs hit on a vehicle in which deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including scales and a pipe.

Deputies determined the vehicle belonged to Derick Paul-Riley Mince, 18, of Rainsville, Ala., the release said.

The dogs also led deputies to another vehicle belonging to a 17-year-old girl, where they found marijuana.

Both subjects were taken into custody. Mince was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center, where he remains at this time, the sheriff's office said.

The girl will be handled through the juvenile court system, the release stated.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, the department plans to use the two new dogs to search schools randomly as requested by DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Charles Warren and the school board.
