RUNNER OF THE YEAR
HANNAH JUMPER
The Baylor School senior's final prep campaign started well and ended just as well. She started the season competing for the United States in the World Mountain Running Championships in Kamnik, Slovenia. It ended with her cruising to her second state championship and leading the Lady Red Raiders to their third consecutive state title. Jumper still is undecided on a college choice, pondering among Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Miami of Ohio. "She has come from a gangly, funny eighth-grader to a mature, wellspoken, composed senior," Baylor coach Heather Ott said. "I can't imagine a team without her."
COACH OF THE YEAR
HEATHER OTT
Ott's 20th season heading the Lady Red Raiders cross country program was by far her best. The team won its third consecutive Division II-AA state championship and sixth overall and had six all-staters in the process. Baylor also won the PowerAde Invitational,
the Tennessee Classic and the Southeast Showdown and finished second in the Berry Invitational - its best-ever finish - and fourth in the Maymont Invitational. "This season was just a testament to the amount of hard work that these girls put into their preparation," Ott said. "They combined seriousness with a touchy-feely love and sisterhood. It was a hard moment to try not to let the emotion of the season coming to an end [get to me], but it was a season that you neverwant to let go."
