Chattanooga: Ted Turner visits McCallie School

Monday, April 25, 2011

Media mogul and McCallie School alumnus Ted Turner visited his alma mater today, school officials said.

The trip lasted less than two hours, but Turner reportedly met with members of a newly reformed sailing club and a debate club.

"He arrived by helicopter and met with the sailing club, which has been reformed after several decades," school spokesman Billy Faires said. "He was involved in both sailing and debate when he attended."

The billionaire businessman also held a 30-minute question-and-answer session with upper-school students before departing, Faires said.

Turner, who founded cable networks CNN and TBS and also owned the Atlanta Braves, graduated from McCallie in 1956. He regularly visits the Chattanooga boys school and has given millions to the private school over the years.
