The Chattanooga region has a 70 percent chance of seeing a tornado on Wednesday, officials said today.
Normally, the region's highest chances for a tornado during severe weather ranges from 15 to 30 percent, Hamilton County Emergency Management Chief Bill Tittle told a roomful of emergency responders today.
Tittle was giving the responders a weather briefing today to prepare for Wednesday's expected severe weather.
National Weather Service meteorologist David Hotz said forecasters' main concern for the incoming storm system is it has potential to spawn "long-tracking, strong tornadoes" across the plateau and valley regions of Southeast Tennessee, Northeast Alabama, and Northwest Georgia.
The storms should hit the plateau between 3 and 6 p.m., the Tennessee Valley between 5 and 8 p.m., Hotz said.
