Town Talk

"There is no useful rule without an exception."

--Thomas Fuller

THE CHATTANOOGA affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network met at Memorial Hospital. Guest speaker was oncology radiologist Dr. Frank Kimsey.

According to network member Bette Malone, Dr. Kimsey spoke about cyber knife surgery and its use in treating cancer.

Malone said members of the group attended Lobby Day in Washington D.C., where advocates from every state met with congressional leaders to urge the federal government to increase funding for pancreatic cancer research.

"At this time, pancreatic cancer receives just 2 percent of federal research funding from the National Cancer Institute," Malone said.

A local fundraiser, the PurpleStride Chattanooga 2011 walk, is scheduled Nov. 12. This year's walk also will include a timed 5K run.

Affiliate volunteers attending Lobby Day were Teresa Warren, Erin Daniels, Vicki Henricks and Edith Snider. Among those attending the meeting at Memorial Hospital were Marilyn VanArsdale, Malone, Emily Lewis, Carol Mann and Barbara and Donnie Burns.
