The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offensive line was a work in progress heading into Friday's scrimmage at Finley Stadium. And the group's youth and inexperience showed at times against a formidable-looking defense.

UTC managed only two touchdowns in the 108-play scrimmage, which included a lot of snaps for players up and down the depth chart. The defense made two interceptions and forced the offense to settle for six Nick Pollard field goals.

"I came in thinking the defense would be ahead," coach Russ Huesman said.

The Mocs have two returning starters in the offensive line: right tackle Adam Miller and left guard Austin Wilson. Right guard Kevin Revis, who transferred from Tennessee, played in one game for the Vols as a redshirt freshman last season.

Left tackle Taylor Dodds and the Mocs' two candidates for center, Patrick Sutton and Shaun Hill, will play for the first time in college this season.

"There were not a lot of missed assignments, but we're just not chasing the ball and doing the little things," offensive line coach Geep Wade said.

The Mocs' front seven on defense didn't make things easier. They put pressure on the line from the outset and made their share of plays in the backfield and at the line of scrimmage. UTC's offense went three-and-out on four of its first six possessions.

"We've got to get our offensive line to grow up pretty fast," Huesman said. "I'm not discouraged with them. ... We get 19 more practices with them, and I think we'll be OK."

According to the stats provided by UTC, quarterback B.J. Coleman was 10-for-17 for 72 yards with an interception. True freshman wideout Tommy Hudson had three catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. J.J. Jackson led the backs with 10 carries for 55 yards.

D.J. Key had perhaps the most acrobatic play of the day when the 6-foot safety went up for a Coleman pass along the sideline and picked it off against 6-5 tight end Faysal Shafaat. Freshman linebacker Muhasibi Wakeel led the defense with six tackles.
