Perry for President

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

THIS OUGHT TO BE GOOD

If you liked Bush you'll love Perry.

Perry is bragging now about being a job creator through his devotion to small government, low wages, and lax regulation. While he may look good on paper, look closer to see what kind of governor he's been.

1) He's a governor who created jobs by hiring government workers. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, employment in Texas’ public sector has grown more rapidly than the private sector recently, with a 19 percent growth in government jobs compared to 9 percent growth in private jobs since 2000. Texas has added more than one in five of the public-sector jobs nationwide at local, state and federal levels. And he used some of that socialistic stimulus money to pay for it.

2) He's a governor who created jobs thanks to the high price of gasoline. When oil prices are high, job growth in Texas historically has exceeded that of the nation, said Keith Phillips, the senior economist and advisor at the San Antonio branch of the Dallas Federal reserve. He said Texas entered the recession late and came out early, mirroring trends in oil prices... “If you look at what states were expanding, they are almost all the energy states,” he said. “When oil prices are high, our job growth is stronger relative to that of the nation.”

3) He's a governor who created jobs through military expansion. Over the past three years the Army has relocated about 14,000 troops to Fort Bliss, which is outside El Paso, and plans to permanently relocate an additional 6,000 troops there in the next two years, according to CNNMoney. Whenever military bases expand there are government support and service jobs being created. Besides supplying new jobs on the base it pumps more money into the local economy.

And as Paul Krugman pointed out in the NYTImes, "What Texas shows is that a state offering cheap labor and, less important, weak regulation can attract jobs from other states. I believe that the appropriate response to this insight is "Well, duh." The point is that arguing from this experience that depressing wages and dismantling regulation in America as a whole would create more jobs - which is, whatever Perry may say, what Perrynomics amounts to in practice - involves a fallacy of composition: Every state can't lure jobs away from every other state. In fact, at a national level lower wages would almost certainly lead to fewer jobs - because they would leave Americans even less able to cope with the overhang of debt left behind by the housing bubble, an overhang that is at the heart of our economic problem."

Let the campaigning begin.

Well, I for one do miss him -- the First-Term one, the Conservative -- not the spending-fool second term Progressive [the one who makes the case against term limits.]

I don't miss Dubya a whole lot, mind you...but he was immeasurably better than The Hussein.

Actually, Slick Willie had the potential to be greater than either. Except he was incapable of keeping his mind on the job and properly defending our country; wasting his abilities on Muslim trivialities and his crotch. Can you imagine his response to 9/11? About the same as for the USS Cole, the Marine Barracks, the family quarters, etc, etc, etc. We needed first-term Bush for that, for better or worse.

Speaking of making the case against term limits, you ain't seen nuttin' yet. Wait for The Hussein's second term -- should we be unfortunate enough [and stupid enough] to give the idiot community-organizing Muslim wannabe a second term.

Here's an example of what The Hussein gave us and why we need someone with a little fiscal responsibility:

http://finance.townhall.com/columnists/bobbeauprez/2011/08/16/paying_for_government_now_takes_a_record_224_days

That means anyone left working [and paying taxes] is now doing it for free from Jan 1 to Aug 12 -- that's four days ago.

Their pay for those first 224 days is to cover the cost of local, state, and federal governments and the cost of federal regulation -- by EPA, Energy, ObamaCare, etc.

The rest of the year's pay is theirs to spend on food, housing, gasoline, etc. as they see fit.

Let's see..Hmmm.."The Chicago Way" or "The Cowboy Way"..Hmmm

Well, if we were talking about 'real' cowboys..you know, the ones who always wore the white hats, would never look the 'other way' when someone was being 'done wrong', and was always discernible from their 'evil' counterparts..that would be a different story...alas, such is not the case here.

And while "The Chicago Way" was often employed by 'good' and 'bad' alike..in the end it usually ended up being the best outcome for the people, in general..Hard to believe..right? But that's the "The Chicago Way!"

If only there was an alternative..you know..something outlandish or so incredibly foreign to the senses..like..bipartisanship..but wait..that would never work with the group we have assembled in D.C. these days.....

No..sadly..it's either "The Chicago Way" or "The New Cowboy Way." Choose one..but choose wisely..Woody

My mom and dad live in Houston, I asked dad about his homeowner's insurance. He said before Perry, he paid less than $1000 a year, now he pays $3500 per year same old coverage and values haven't risen. How would you like to be shelling out $300 per month for homeowner's insurance? Keep voting for R and you will find out.

There is an RP, from Texas, who deserves some attention. And, that RP is Ron Paul, not Rick Perry (soon to be known as GB 3.0).

He is to the left of Obama on Civil Rights, and to the right of Perry on fiscal issues. He's hard to pigeonhole, scares the status quo types who like Liberty in theory, but fear it in practice, and is often dismissed as crazy. But, John Stewart seems to like him, as do more and more people everyday.

I think we've wasted too many decades letting cookie-cutter mainstreamers vie for our votes in a political wrasslin' match as scripted and predictable as the WWE.

We should consider this statement from Noam Chomsky when listening to any candidate: "The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate."

It's time to think out of the box, and at least consider Ron Paul. His campaign slogan for 2012 should be "I told you so".

This kid is consistently inconsistent. True, a lot of low-wage fastfood jobs came to his state, but last I checked $300.00 a week, after taxes, $250.00 a week, which translates into $1000.00 a month, can't put food on the table, pay utlilities, put gas in your car, pay rent and raise a family. This guy rocks Armani suits while people in his state suffer. You wingnut middle and lower class people are insane. What tax breaks would you get under his leadership? Oh, let me guess...he's a conservative...he shares the same valuuuuuuues as me...he's pro-life...he's a devoted christian. What you twits don't understand is that he doesn't care about you. Thanks for the scare Clay. Another fun campaign button would have a picture of Hillary Clinton with the words “TOLD YA SO!”

Just what we need … another Texas governor as president

There are however, differences between Shrub and Perry. While Bush mostly pretended to be a Christian, Perry is a full on Dominionist, who believes that Christians have a God-mandated right and duty to rule everything and everyone according to (their) God’s law.

Think of it like political Islamism, which shapes the activism of a number of fundamentalist movements, from Sunni Wahhabi’s in Arabia to Shiite fundamentalists in Iran.

If Bush eroded the separation of church and state, the GOP is now poised to nominate someone who will mount an all-out assault on it.

Our choices for 2012 will be (as determined by a corporate controlled media) – Perry, Romney (I’d prefer Ron Paul) …………or Obama.

OH JOY……

Welll, Gov Perry actually added jobs of some sort. President Obama destroyed jobs. Gov Perry balanced 11 or so budgets, eh? President Obama blew up the deficits. Even 'Saul' Krugman admits deregulation helps job growth, but President Obama has multiplied regulations, telling Boeing NOT to build in South Carolina. So there's a case for Perry, or for most Republicans, especially the two leaders in the Iowa straw poll.

(Anyone who puts any stock whatsoever in the book of Mormon is showing horrendously bad judgment, not what I'd want in a President; I've read the thing. Its version of American history makes Mrs. Bachmann look like a tenured professor at Harvard by comparison. But who do the media jump on?)

MT John, what's unspiritual about Gov Perry's prayer meeting crowd? (Quote from C.S. Lewis's novel PERELANDRA: "There's nothing specially fine about being a spirit. The devil is a spirit." Which human spirits are more aligned with the devil, and in what ways, we might disagree about. Our President's job performance, as per my first paragraph, does not demonstrate effective compassion to me; he lacks true, wise love in the policy realm, though he seems to do well as husband and father as far as I've heard. The Tea Party does political love rather better: keep the government fundable, save the economy, make and let people work for a living. Jesus is libertarian, and our President falls short of His glory.) Dominionist? Well, Islam is false and its governing policies horrendous; atheism is false and its governing policies horrendous; Christianity is true and the governing policies of Christians are a mixed bag because most Christians don't realize and pursue how libertarian (in some ways) Jesus is. Even so, the Christian average excels the Muslim and atheistic averages--would you move to Saudi Arabia or North Korea because they are so well governed? Go with Christianity and try to make its practices more Christian. (To anyone who wants to read a good dominionist book, I recommend UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER by Gary North, probably available online--try www.garynorth.com/freebooks, or search around. North sometimes writes as nastily as Mr Bennett draws, but North does--in this book--offer plenty of good stuff.)

Ron Paul will never be electable as President. The man has too much baggage that he instigated himself. His views regarding abortion, civil rights for people of color to be able to eat wherever they like, his opposition to the Federal Reserve Bank and his desire to return this nation to the gold standard, his desire to end Medicare, Social Security and more, leave him in bad shape on a national level. He has struggled to obtain double digits every time he has ran for President.

The man certainly has fans, but not enough to propel him into the White House anytime soon.

Rick Perry is the flavor of the week with the Tea Party conservatives. When the rest of America begins to delve into the man's background and realizes the baggage that he carries, he will fizzle out.

I say that, but then I do so realizing that some very misguided Iowans voted for Michelle Bachmann in this past week's straw poll.

The more people change, the more they stay the same.

Alprova mentioned the Iowa straw poll and some media people have made that out to be a big deal. It really REALLY isn't.

Here's how it works: It costs $30 to buy a ballot to vote. The Bachmann campaign bought 6,000 ballots and passed them out like playing cards. How did she NOT win?

The Finance Director of the Iowa Straw Poll wrote in 1987, "The ISP was devised as a fund-raising gimmick for the state party and nothing more than that."

The real test will be New Hampshire. That's when you'll begin to see how the field is shaping up.

rat..my point was that if our gas was subsidized at the rate of Venezuela our prices would be extremely low also.We give about 4 billion dollars/year to subsidize our oil industry.Venezuela gives about 1.5 billion/year.They have less than 1/10 the population of the U.S. and don't use as much per citizen. As far as Naval protection,of course there is.We wouldn't need to protect as many if we were allowed to drill where there are huge oil fields in America. If the E.P.A. didn't throw up roadblock after roadblock every time we try to get at the huge reserves we have here.

No, sandy, you have it wrong...the only ones horrified because many Republicans are running are the Democrats. And rightly so. [Pun intended} The wheat will separate from the chaff.

Since you have no choice but to accept your candidate [sour mouth-taste, incompetence, and all], why don't you switch-hit and vote for The Mitt in our primary? Your boy will then, just maybe, stand a chance better than a snowball in H. Against anyone else, literally anyone, he is 2012 toast. And he knows it.

Rolando,

I know from first hand that stupidity is infinite in the South and rest of the US. You are are clear cut example for that, but the US is still (just barely) reasonable enough not to vote for totally dumbsters like Bachman-Palin-Perry. The only canditates having a chance in general election are Romney-Huntsman, but the good news is that born-again-idiots like you are not going to vote for mormons.. so you ahve to swallow another 4 years of the Hussein as you call him.. and this is good like that cause we had to suffer 8 years under the dumbest of all presidents in ANY free country...

Chet123..... Forbes reports that the poorest one-fourth of Venezuelans spend 45 percent of their income on food. Inflation in Venezuela (over 20%)has long been a problem, but rates have escalated in the last two years. Food prices have been especially hard hit as a result of poor growing conditions as well as government price controls. Soaring inflation meant that food prices increased more than 33 percent from March 2010 to March 2011. People compensate by substituting eggs and beans for meat, and others wait hours in food subsidy lines. When some staples like milk, cooking oil, beef and sugar sell out of stores, street vendors will sell them at a high premium.

But they have cheap gas.......

On that note how come you aren't more mad at the greedy oil guys for the prices they charge to Europeans for their gas? It's over 9 dollars a gallon there. By your calculations wouldn't those greedy guys be making more than twice the amount they make here? If I were them I wouldn't even sell gas here if I could make double somewhere else.

Great job once again Chet123.

Obama's incompetence and economic ignorance may result in the democrats not accepting him as their candidate. The person most capable of beating Obama is Obama. It is way too early to guess who the pubs might pick. The eventual candidates are probably not in the picture yet. I sure hope not, I would like to have someone I could vote for. Right now I would pass and accept the results. I don't think after LBJ and the Bush's I am ready for another Texan.

It is interesting to watch the main stream media and Fox both try to ignore Ron Paul. His ultra liberal social agenda and ultra conservative fiscal agenda confuses them, they aren't sure how to react to him. Both seem to fear he may get some traction. He doesn't have the financial resources to win but I love to watch the media squirm when they have no choice but to give him a little air time. The media hardly mentions his second place by only 1% behind Bachman with a lot less money and time invested in the straw poll.

Since I and others on this site are Conservatives, we know the elephant's name in Clay's last cartoon. His name is "Rino." The Republican Party has moved to the left e.g. McCain, Bush. The GOP has turned into the mid 60's Democratic Party. The Democratic Party has also moved to the left e.g. Humphey, McGovern, Carter, Dukakis, Mondale, Clinton (Only after he was elected) Gore, and Kerry. (Notice that they are all girlie men) Then Obama (Jimmy Carter II) comes along and he is even further left then the above. He tried his Socialist radical ideas and they didn't work. Now he can't run on his record, so he'll just have to attack, and use class warfare to get elected by getting the takers/victims/morons to vote for him and his fellow libs. Now the moderates, who really decide elections, have no core beliefs/principles. They stick their wet fingers in the air, and vote on which way the wind blows. They did not vote for the far left in the Fall of 2010 and will certainly not vote for the far left libs in 2012. The Republican Party moved left and abandoned the Conservatives and now we are standing against "Rino" the elephant because we don't want a Nanny State Government. We are also T=Taxed E=Enough A=Already.

Now we have another Conservative running Rick Perry. He will appeal to the heartland or as you libs call it, "Fly over Country." No matter what you say about the 2012 election this Country is still a right of center even though both parties moved to the left. We have tried 50 years of social engineering, spent close to 12 Trillion dollars and where is our bang for the buck. Can anyone name me a large American City that has been successful during the past 50 years keeping in mind that the vast majority of them were and are run by liberals and their social engineering ideas? Note: Some of the above was posted by me late in the last cartoon but it does fit this cartoon better. I truly would like posters to use logic and common sense if they decide to respond to my post. Chet123 will say Republicans bad and Democrats are good Etc. Mountainjoe had a great come backer to Chet123 in the last cartoon.

The oil companies make about 7 cents a gallon and the taxes on a gallon are around fifty cents plus the government gets revenue from drilling site royalties, who is greedy and selfish? You don't like the high prices and oil companies making a profit, a decent return on their investment? Buy some stock in an oil company and participate, let them pay for your gas. At current stock prices BP is paying dividends of around 4%, Conoco. Exxon and Chevron pay over 3%. All better than U.S. treasury bonds. Kinder Morgan pays out 90% of their profits as dividends which is over 6%. Wonder why the democrats want to cut out oil company subsidies and have gas cost more, could it be the tax revenue. I agree there should be no subsidies and let the price of gas be higher but for a different reason.

It is obvious chet123 has no more idea about futures buying and selling than Obama did when he made his stupid but never repeated statement. For every futures trader that thinks oil will be higher at some future month another has to be willing to sell a contract. One will lose money and the other will make money. It is a zero sum activity. Futures traders don't determine or affect the price of oil they are trying to guess the up or down direction of the price. If you sell a contract to deliver 10,000 barrels at $100 a barrel you have to do that on an agreed upon date. If oil goes up you will have to buy it at the higher price and sell it at the lower price to the buyer. If the price per barrel goes down the contract buyer still has to pay you $100 per barrel although oil cost less. Always a loser for every winner.

Most on here probably know more than I do. I'm just wondering where are the numbers to back up the argument that Obama will win? Where? I'll tell you, his poll numbers are hideous, and horrible in places he needs them to be good. I see a repeat of Jimmy Carter. Someone on another thread on here labeled him as mediocre. That's generous. I think America is sick of him and the last 2 and half years. The Republican candidates are made out to be laughing stocks by many on here. That's a mistake to take that approach. Obama is very much a laughing stock right now. Just ask around.

Add those up and he has around 49%. Once again independents will be the deciding voters and who knows how that will go?

As Ann Coulter said, in part:

quote . . . .

The vast and permanent underclass created by the welfare state is a great success story for the Democratic Party, which now has a loyal constituency of deadbeats who automatically vote for the Democrats to keep their Trojan horse "benefits" flowing.

It's the Democrats' "heroin dealer" model of government.

Apparently, it takes a lot of government workers to minister to the poor, inasmuch as government employment has skyrocketed in tandem with the family's disintegration. As long as Democrats are serving their principal constituency -- recipients of taxpayer money -- they don't care what happens to the rest of society.

They champion any mob that will increase their political power. Liberals promote welfare dependency, class warfare, endless government programs staffed with public sector workers, street protests, coddling criminals and physical attacks on their ideological opponents. This is how they create reliable Democratic voters.

True, government employees are doing jobs we don't want done, can never be fired, are bankrupting the country and periodically break out in mob violence.

True, also, that the children of broken families sometimes burn city blocks to the ground or kill their great-grandmothers with swords. But what a voting bloc!

unquote

Yet the Dems can neither understand nor countenance the idea that we, the rest of the people, want something better.

And we will get it.

I really doubt that the libs can give a come backer on the article. As you notice no lib on this site has answered my question of the Social Engineering by liberal Mayors in large cities and if any lib can tell me of a success story of a large city where liberalism has worked.

I bet it would be surprising how those healthy enough to work would find a way to support themselves if they had to. State, local governments and cathedral building churches are the correct sources of welfare, not the inefficient federal government.

If you can read you will also know I think all government grants, subsidies, incentives, tax deductions and loop holes should be eliminated. The fair tax proposal as outlined in H.R. 25 and S.13 is the fairest tax system. The problem is the wealthy and politicians don't like it since it taxes the wealthy more and stops political manipulation. The other problem is people like you that can't grasp it will let the politicians and media scare them so the ignorant don't support it.
