Suspicious package at federal building in Chattanooga found to contain tennis shoes

A suspicious package at the federal building at 900 Georgia Ave. in downtown Chattanooga this morning led to a search that then discovered a pair of tennis shoes in the package.

The Chattanooga Police Department reported that security personnel at the building had located the package while performing regular security checks.

The Chattanooga Police Department was notified at 4:20 a.m. and members of the explosives ordinance disposal team responded.

The team found the pair of shoes in the black bag, police reported.

Police said the area around the building has now been re-opened and no one has yet been identified as the person who left the bag.

On first report of a suspicious package at the Federal Building, I opined it might be a copy of the US Constitution since most inside aren't familiar with it.

The bag with tennis shoes must have been left by one of the Federales in case they run across a copy to step on. Can't be using those handmade Italian shoes; the ink might stain the soles.
