Chattanooga police: Man with pantyhose over his face robs cupcake store

Monday, August 22, 2011

Chattanooga police are investigating two robberies committed over the weekend that have suspects with similar descriptions.

The first occurred Saturday night at GiGi's Cupcakes, located at 1906 Gunbarrel Road, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

The employee on duty at the time of the robbery told police that a white male in his late 40s to 50s came into the store with pantyhose over his face and demanded money, Weary said. The employee fled the store through a rear door, she said.

The suspect then took the cash register and fled the business in an unknown direction, Weary said.

The second robbery occurred early this morning at the Mr. Zip convenience store 1905 Gunbarrel Road, Weary said.

The employee on duty was assisting a customer just outside the front door when she noticed a man behind the counter and went in to see what he was doing, Weary said.

The employee told the suspect - described as a white male in his late 30s or early 40s - to leave the store and he disconnected the cash register, took it and fled to the back of the store.

The suspect in both incidents was described as being 6 foot 1 or 6 foot 2l, about 170 pounds and wearing a T-shirt.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
