Opening Thursday at River Gallery is an exhibition featuring Deborah Falls, Susan Levi-Goerlich and Natalia Margulis. The common denominator in all three artists' work is the use of fiber.
Falls, an artist from Vermont, combines her skills in printmaking and textiles to create paintings on silk. She captures the essence of her subjects through a process that employs simplicity of line and color.
Levi-Goerlich describes her paintings in fiber as a combination of dyed and hand-painted silks with needle-felting and layering techniques. The imagery for this Maryland artist comes from landscapes and gardens she has encountered while traveling, as well as cherished photographs.
Margulis is a native of Russia who now resides in New Jersey. Her embroidered pictures reflect her interest in nature's cycle of life. Techniques and materials to achieve her goal include hand and machine stitching, dyeing, fusing, gilding, beading, heat distressing and embossing.
A reception for "Fabric of Life" will be held Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The show will remain on display through September.
On Sept. 10, Courtenay James will give an oil- painting demonstration during the Gallery Hop from 2 to 6 p.m.
The Tennessee Valley Bonsai Society will exhibit trees from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 18.
