A Chickamauga, Ga., woman has been arrested and charged with stealing money from a 64-year-old woman who was in her legal care.

Morgan, who was the legal guardian of Jackie Humphrey, took more than $165,000 from Humphrey's account in November to buy herself a house with cash, an arrest warrant states.

The GBI still is investigating the case, and Agent James Harris said he couldn't comment further.

Morgan couldn't be reached for comment.

But Humphrey's family members said they are appalled that they trusted Morgan and are suing her to gain back their family member's money.

"It's really sad," said Mike Humphrey, Jackie Humphrey's cousin. "This woman took everything from her."

Jackie Humphrey was worth nearly $1 million when Morgan began to care for her, he said, but now the family can't account for most of her money, he said.

Mike Humphrey said the family began to notice a pattern of inconsistency and started to look into their cousin's account.

When Adult Protective Services got involved in the investigation, the family removed Morgan, and Mike Humphrey said he was appointed his cousin's power of attorney.

About three years ago, Jackie Humphrey's mother, who had been caring for her, became ill and no longer was able to look after her daughter, Mike Humphrey said. Morgan was given the job of taking care of Jackie Humphrey, who has several health issues, he said, and the family trusted Morgan because she was a distant family friend.
