Authorities are doing aerial searches around Signal Mountain, searching for 43-year-old Gail Palmgren, who disappeared in April.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating the searches, which started Wednesday and continue today, officials said.
Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond said the case remains active.
“It is still a very much active case,” he said. “We are followiing up on some leads.”
In a previous interview a few months ago, Hammond said aerial searches of the area probably would begin once the leaves fell off the trees.
Palmgren, a mother of two children, was last seen on April 30, dropping her children off at her home at 40 Ridgerock Drive on Signal Mountain.
Sheriff’s office investigators have said there is no evidence of foul play in Palmgren’s disappearance.
Matthew Palmgren, Palmgren’s husband, consented to searches of the couple’s Signal Mountain home, their Alabama lake house, his mother’s apartment and a Red Bank storage unit, but he has not given a statement to authorities.
He also has placed the couple’s Signal Mountain home on the market.

I imagine the police have used a cadaver dog to search the area around the Palmgren home? and also carefully searched the ponds in the Saint Ives subdivision for a weighted body? I mean, never mind the obvious. Of course, you have to consider that it is Signal Mountain law enforcement spearheading this investigation (when it probably needs to be the FBI at this point.) Good luck for her family getting any justice....
I saw a helicopter fly back and forth over Signal Mountain today. If she has been in there since April, through the hot summer, then there isn't anything that you are going to see from the air. I hope my county tax money isn't going towards paying for that helicopter.
I agree with skyboxer, this should be driven by A neutral party like the FBI. The case was mishandled and not given adequate interest by Signal Mountain Police until it made national news. They would rather pretend the community up there is not capable of such possible atrocities as homicide than actually strive for justice!
"Sheriff’s office investigators have said there is no evidence of foul play in Palmgren’s disappearance."
Why should they suspect homicide? The woman dropped her kids off at home and took off minutes before her husband arrived at home. No evidence means no evidence. Until they find some saying otherwise, we have to conclude what the current evidence suggests. She abandoned her family.
skyboxer wouldnt want the f.b.i. in his hood looking for a body,so why would he want them in signal mountain?
@Flying- There is every possibility of homicide. Why can you say there is no possibility of homicide when there is even less of a possibility of Abandonment. --"Sheriff’s office investigators have said there is no evidence of foul play in Palmgren’s disappearance."
They have clearly shown their incompetence with this case. What happened to the old days when the sherrif's office was held accountable for not gaining results? I just hope all the poor Signal Mountain residents can sleep at night with the knowledge they are so protected on their mountain. And the second things go wrong every justice entity bails out with we can't figure anything out.
Wrong again IOD? Will you feel any shame if you are?
POINT BLANK.... She went missing with no other evidence and now possibly this is her car... c'mon people..has anyone ever even gave the thought that she may have had suicidal thoughts... maybe she was to the breaking point and dropped her kids off and drove her car off the road....a sad situation for everyone involved...
