Big sports honors are justly being given to Chattanooga's Zan Guerry and C.L. "Gibby" Gilbert II. They're among 10 men being inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Guerry has been an outstanding tennis player at the local, state and national levels, winning impressive titles over five decades. Gilbert is a retired PGA Tour golfer with multiple wins.

Also of local interest among those honored are Chattanooga native Austin Conner Shofner. He lettered at the University of Tennessee in football and wrestling -- and became a Marine brigadier general. He led an escape from a POW camp operated by the Japanese during World War II, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross from Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

Also honored will be highly successful amateur golfer Tim Jackson. Though he lives in Germantown, he is a member of The Honors Course and has close ties to Chattanooga.

Congratulations to them all.
