Times Free Press cartoonist Clay Bennett wins 2011 United Nations Political Cartoon award

Clay Bennett, editorial cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, has been awarded first place in the United Nations Political Cartoons competition for 2011 by the United Nations Correspondents Association and the U.N. Society of Writers and Artists.

Bennett won for a cartoon about the Mideast peace talks that featured an Escher-like table and chairs that were upside-down from each other.

Second prize went to Rick McKee of The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle. Third prize went to David Pope of the Canberra (Australia) Times.

The Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon award is granted for the "best political cartoons reflecting the spirit and the principles of the United Nations," according to its website.
