Clemons claims Lookout 50-miler

Former Lee University runner Johnny Clemons was the overall winner Saturday in the Lookout Mountain 50-Mile Trail Race, finishing the course in 7 hours, 23 minutes, 4 seconds. Last year's winner, Troy Shellhamer of Louisville, Ky., beat his 2010 time by nearly 10 minutes but was second to Clemons in 7:32:52, with Nick Lewis third in 7:42:56. Deborah Livingston, who made a long trip from Connecticut, was the women's winner in 9:16:20, with Lora Liu second in 10:05:44. Sam Dech won the 10-kilometer option in the Rock/Creek Trail Series event in 35:46, followed by Jacob Bradley in 36:24, and Misty Griffin and Tera Woods were the top two females in 49:00 and 49:24.

• Running down Sergio Bianchini for the second year in a row, Tim Ensign won the 6.7-mile Wauhatchie Trail Race for the seventh time Saturday morning. Ensign, 49, got a four-minute head start on the 25-29-year-old men in the staggered race to the finish line on the lower slopes of Lookout Mountain, and the 70-year-old Bianchini had a 16-minute edge on the zero-handicap group and wound up 10 seconds behind Ensign's official time of 35 minutes, 52 seconds. Former area college runners Caleb Morgan and Daniel Goetz, both 24, were third and fourth in 37:15 and 37:45 with 15-second head starts on the group headed by sixth-place Patrick Hall, 27, with his no-head-start 38:30. Recent University of Tennessee at Chattanooga star Anneli Uys Morrison, 24, was fifth overall and the first female finisher in 38:04 with a 5:30 handicap. Sue Anne Brown, 65, was the second woman and eighth overall in 39:14. Bianchini and his son, Marco, edged Ensign and his wife, Barbara, for the family prize with a combined 83:51 to 84:00.

• JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman College sophomore Ishmael Sanders from Cleveland High School had 16 points with three 3-pointers in the Eagles' 99-80 basketball victory Saturday against visiting Bluefield College.
