Inmate found hanging in cell

A man charged in a Cumberland County, Tenn., slaying earlier this year was found hanging in his cell Saturday, authorities said.

Allen Stacey Rogers, 32, was being held at the Cumberland County Justice Center on charges of first-degree murder in the death of Summer Nicole Nelms, 35, whose body was found behind a BP gas station.

Nelms' nude body was found in early October. Rogers, a truck driver from Pines, N.C., was arrested within a week. Authorities said at the time they believed Rogers picked Nelms up in Knoxville.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office chief investigator Casey Cox said that officers found Rogers hanging and attempted life-saving methods, but the inmate was pronounced dead at Cumberland Medical Center.

Man shot in leg in Chattanooga

Antonio Edwards, 18, told Chattanooga police that just before 8 p.m. Saturday, he and friends were walking at 100 Woodvale Ave. when they heard shots. He later realized he'd been shot in the lower leg.

He was treated at a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
