Gordon County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials have opened up a homicide investigation after a person was killed in Fairmount, Ga., Saturday morning.

Deputy Chief Robert Paris said a 911 call reporting the slaying came in around 11:30 a.m.

Paris said the person was killed at an address along U.S. 411 in Fairmount, which is about 18 miles east of Calhoun, Ga.

Paris would not release the cause of death or the victim's age or gender Monday afternoon pending the investigation.

He said the person now in custody is "connected to the event," but he would not reveal the person's identity or their link to the crime.
